Canciones inspiradas en asesinos

De la música se podría decir que es la expresión artística socialmente más difundida y consumida, como también, en general al menos, más integrada a la cotidianidad y a la subjetividad de los individuos. Por otra parte, sabido es que el mayor tabú de todos es el asesinato, entendiendo aquí ‘tabú’ como algo que socialmente y moralmente puede ir desde lo meramente mal visto (la homosexualidad en ciertas sociedades y el incesto en todas, por ejemplo) hasta lo que es terminantemente prohibido, inclusive por la ley. Así, claro está que el asesinato está en el extremo de lo tajantemente prohibido; siendo algo que, por estar más allá de un límite que casi nadie cruzaría, se percibe como inaccesible a la experiencia propia, como escalofriante y también como intrigante y atrayente. De ese modo, la música inspirada en asesinos seriales representa cabalmente el asombro y la memoria que, por decirlo de algún modo, la cultura popular tributa a aquellos siniestros seres que han roto el más sobrecogedor y atemorizante de los tabús. Aunque también, y en tanto que la violencia como tema de entretenimiento e inspiración artística ha sido desde los inicios de la civilización una válvula de escape generalmente inocua (más que todo en nuestras sociedades contemporáneas) a la agresividad, la música inspirada en asesinos seriales representa así a la máxima expresión de la violencia[1] convertida en objeto de disfrute. Pero finalmente, en mayor o menor medida según los contenidos concretos de la canción en cuestión, la música sobre asesinos seriales ofrece una ventana simbólica a través de la cual podemos interactuar —sin riesgo a una sanción externa o interna— psicológicamente con el escabroso y vedado mundo del asesinato y de aquello tan temido y misterioso que está detrás de aquel transfiriéndole constantemente su aura enigmática: la muerte.

Ya a nivel concreto, vemos que muchos son los artistas y grupos musicales que han tocado sobre el tema de la muerte en general pero, lo que es el tema de los asesinos seriales como tal, ha sido tratado por un porcentaje mínimo mas, en términos de números absolutos (no ya de porcentajes), no han sido pocos los artistas y grupos musicales que lo han abordado. Entre esos casos se encuentran representantes famosos como los siguientes: Cradle of Filth (black metal), Bathory (extreme metal pero sobre todo black metal), Slayer (trash metal), Venom (heavy metal), Kamelot (metal), Marilyn Manson (alternative metal, heavy metal), The Killers (rock), The Cranberries (rock), Pearl Jam (rock grunge), The Rolling Stones (rock), Cannibal Corpse (death metal), Judas Priest (heavy metal), System of a Down (metal), Suicide Commando (industrial/EBM) , Ozzy Osbourne (heavy metal), Siouxsie and the Banshees (rock gótico), entre otros.

Tal y como hace sospechar el párrafo anterior, el género musical en el que más se han dado producciones en torno a los asesinos seriales es el metal, seguido después por el rock. Y esto en efecto es así, no solo a nivel de representantes conocidos de la escena musical sino también a nivel de quienes gozan de menos fama e incluso de quienes están en la esfera de lo underground.

Hay sin embargo que dejar en claro que son el black metal, el death metal y el trash metal los subgéneros del metal en que más se ha hablado de asesinos seriales. Como se ve, todos ellos pertenecen a la línea más agresiva y dura del metal, línea que incluso muchas veces, por su crudeza estética y temática, no es escuchada incluso por algunos de los adeptos del heavy metal, el power metal, el nu metal y otras expresiones menos agresivas del metal. La razón de tal fenómeno es evidente; aunque, para comprenderla más a fondo, podríamos citar las palabras de Scab Casserole en un artículo suyo sobre el tema: ‹‹La obsesión del metal extremo con los asesinos seriales lleva mucho tiempo y es comprensible. Los asesinos seriales parecen representar nuestras reacciones negativas más básicas, el cruce de una línea que no podemos entender y el cumplimiento del deseo de atormentar a través de la muerte a otro ser humano. En la cultura del metal algunos asesinos seriales reciben más cobertura y crédito que otros: Ed Gein, por su tranquila pero elaborada morbidez; John Wayne Gacy, por su diabólico alter ego de Pogo El Payaso[2]; Richard Ramírez, por su lealtad a Satán y su tatuaje de pentagrama. Después está Jeffrey Dahmer, el Caníbal de Milwaukee […] Los metaleros rinden culto al poder, sea este la fuerza física, la rebelión social, la grandiosidad espiritual, o incluso el poder abrumador e inevitable de la muerte. Pero parte de esa reverencia es una admisión de nuestra propia debilidad. El death metal se focaliza en la fina membrana que es el cuerpo físico, el black metal en las endebles mentiras que rodean nuestras almas. Amamos la dominación masiva que viene con los riffs abrazadores, los tambores machacadores y las voces guturales, ya que éstos emplean nuestros oídos y corazones para arañar sobre algo inmenso, lejano y enigmático, algo sinceramente muy aterrador. De esta forma, quizá la afición del metal pesado por Jeffrey Dahmer señala nuestra propia debilidad y fragilidad. Así, a diferencia de sus compañeros en el arte de la abominación, Jeffrey Dahmer no es visto porque mostró malicia y fuerza sino porque mostró desesperación e inhumanidad al despedazar a sus objetos de deseo en la esperanza de encontrar en esto algo que lo hiciera sentirse menos sólo.››

Pero no solo en la escena del metal sino en el panorama de la música en general existen ciertos asesinos que se han llevado el mayor protagonismo. Algunos de esos son:

Elizabeth Bathory, Vlad Tepes, Gilles de Rais, Jack El Destripador, Charles Manson, David Berkowitz (Son of Sam), Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy. Por ejemplo, en el caso de Charles Manson, Brian Hugh Warner eligió “Marilyn Manson” de nombre artístico como una forma de eludir a Marilyn Monroe y al asesino serial Charles Manson. Pero esa fama no despunta si se la compara con la de Elizabeth Bathory, quien junto a Vlad Tepes es todo un ícono de la subcultura gótica y, con respecto a ella en lo que es el mundo del metal (en el rock gótico, por ejemplo, hay también mucho de ella), la Encyclopedia Metallum registra 200 canciones, 10 álbumes con título dedicado a ella y 4 grupos cuyos nombres la aluden directamente, puesto que otros la aluden indirectamente, como aquel con el nombre de su castillo: Csejthe.

Finalmente y para acabar, ponemos una lista de asesinos (casi todos asesinos seriales) con muchas[3] de sus respectivas canciones, lista en la cual, en muchos casos, los nombres de las canciones han sido vinculados a versiones virtualmente disponibles de los tracks.
